Highmoor Wilderness Area, southern central Drakensberg.  The cave is located near the top end of one of the north-facing valleys beyond the upper dam.

GPS Coordinates:

Unknown

Description:

This is a small cave, adequate for no more than 4 hikers.

Comfort:  3/5

The sleeping area is quite level, but the low roof requires some stooping.

Water:  3/5

A small stream passes below the cave.  In summer this carries a good supply of water, but in winter it may dry up.

Pools:  0/5

There are no pools anywhere near the cave.

Shelter:  3/5

The sandstone overhang provides good shelter from rain, but the cave may be exposed to strong winds and driven rain.

Outlook:  3/5

The cave is nestled in the top end of a north-facing valley with very little to see, but a climb to the top of the hill behind will provide good views of Giant's Castle and the central escarpment on a clear day.

Overall Rating:  12/25

History:

The author named the cave after a 10-year old boy, nicknamed Tootie by his father, who accompanied a Mountain Backpackers Club hike and investigated the cave.
